This Wear Sleeve is Stainless Steel that comes standard on all Dexter axles with a BT8 or BT16 Spindle. Axles that would require this Wear Sleeve are 4 or 5 Lug and typically use 1" or 1 1/16" inner and outer bearings. Since the wear sleeve is made of stainless steel, an axle's wear sleeve should not rust but it may become damaged or dinged from road debris or accidents around the hub or grease seal area. Any type of dent or ding in the wear sleeve could tear the grease seal while trailering and cause a seal failure or even cause grease to leak out the back of the hub. Once the wear sleeve is no longer providing a smooth surface for the grease seal, it's time to be replaced.
