Hydraulic Disc Brakes for Trailers

Hydraulic Surge Brakes use momentum and resistance; as the vehicle stops, the trailer surges forward, which allows the actuator to create hydraulic pressure to slow and stop the trailer.  Disc brakes use a Rotor and Caliper to actively stop the trailer. Most Trailer Disc Brake companies, like Kodiak, offer their brake kits in 2 different styles, a Slip-On style and an Integral style. The Slip-On Style has the Rotor as one piece by itself, that slips over an idler hub. The Integral style has the Hub and Rotor cast as one single piece. They both offer the same performance, it's down to personal preference usually when deciding on the style of brakes. If you have Idler hubs on your trailer now, meaning no brakes at all, then you may want to get the slip on brakes. However you may also want to look into getting the Integral version and keeping your current hubs as a spare.
